Shingo Sato Jacket
Fabric Sculpting Exercise, 2020
A project that opened my mind up to the possibilities of going beyond traditional forms which I had been focusing on for so long. This was an intense excersize in intricate pattern-making, draping and understanding how to engineer fabric around the body.
First form exploration with Shingo Sato, inserting abstracted rectangles into a bodice
First muslin pattern
First Toile in heavy canvas to accentuate the form
Patterns in Progress
Back Pattern details
Denim explorations
I wasn’t able to complete the jacket as I didn’t have access to an industrial sewing machine or serger during the initial stages of quarantine.
However, this jacket was really an excersize in more complex and experimental pattern-making, intricate seaming and learning how to sculpt fabric away from the human form.
